Why Salt and Light?

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Matthew 5:13-16

Our name comes from Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:13–16: “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” These words aren’t just a verse we admire — they are a calling we embrace.

Salt preserves, brings out goodness, and carries value. Light pushes back darkness and reveals truth. That’s what we believe education should do. At Salt and Light Academy, we aren’t here just to “get through the school day.” We are here to preserve what is good, to shape character, and to raise children who will shine brightly for Christ in a world that desperately needs it.

Our name reminds us daily of our mission: to cultivate students who are rooted in biblical truth, confident in who God created them to be, and equipped to impact the world around them. Every garden we plant, every animal we care for, every lesson we teach is a chance to show students that their education is not just about knowledge, but about purpose.

Salt and Light Academy is more than a school. It’s a movement of families who believe children were created to grow in freedom, faith, and truth — so they can preserve what is good and light the way for generations to come.
